Mountain Barracks 4F

The Cuartel de la Montaña 4F is an emblematic site laden with historical and political significance in Venezuela. Located in the 23 de Enero parish of Caracas, this barracks was originally built in 1906 as part of the city's military defense system, then known as the Military Historical Museum. Its importance in the national memory was consolidated after the events of February 4, 1992, when it was one of the key points during the failed coup attempt led by then Lieutenant Colonel Hugo Chávez. Years later, in 2002, the building was renamed Cuartel de la Montaña 4F. Since March 15, 2013, the barracks have housed the mausoleum of President Hugo Chávez, becoming a place of homage and pilgrimage for many supporters of Chavismo. The site is guarded by the Presidential Honor Guard and features a historical room that displays elements related to the life and political legacy of the former president. 💡Curiosities The mausoleum where Hugo Chávez's remains rest is known as "The Flower of the Four Elements," designed with symbolic elements representing earth, water, air, and fire. Every day at 4:25 p.m., a ceremony with artillery salutes is held, commemorating the official time of President Chávez's death. From the barracks' viewpoint, one can enjoy wide views of western Caracas, making it a contemplative place beyond its historical significance.
